Housing Voucher Real-Time Tracker

A research-based web application for monitoring Housing Choice Voucher, Project-Based Voucher, and related program openings across the United States. This prototype supports community access, transparency, and official-source verification for residents, advocates, and partner organizations.

This tool is part of ongoing Living Lab research in collaboration with Old Dominion University (ODU), Central Virginia Resource Corporation (CVRC), and Resources for Independent Living (RIL). It is not a government system and should be used as a starting point for verification, not a substitute for the housing authority's current rules.

Research Context

The tracker is designed as a community-impact research tool. It centers discoverability, source transparency, and practical verification habits that can support underserved communities navigating fragmented housing systems.

Project Background

This work sits within the Living Lab initiative and is being developed in collaboration with ODU, CVRC, and RIL. Old Dominion University is a public research university focused on solving real-world problems through innovation, research, and community partnerships.

The application’s purpose is to track real-time housing voucher program openings across the United States, improve access to housing resources, and centralize waitlist information in a transparent, citation-first format.

Methodology Notes

  • Each listing includes a direct official-source link and a separate application link when available.
  • Every card displays a last-verified date to make staleness visible.
  • Status labels distinguish between fully open, limited/preference-only, and closed programs.
  • Users are encouraged to confirm details directly with the housing authority before taking action.
